Hilltop Lumber History

Hilltop Lumber started in 1988 in Glenwood with five employees, three trucks and one forklift. Since that time, Hilltop Lumber has expanded to include five locations: Alexandria, Glenwood, Parkers Prairie, Brandon and Ottertail. The company also operates Hilltop Rental Center is located in the Alexandria store. According to owner Paul Klimek, Hilltop Lumber’s founders started out with a vision of creating a company that served its customers and treated them the way they would want to be treated if they were remodeling or building a new home.

“Our objective, at Hilltop, is to develop a relationship with the contractor or homeowner where we are viewed as a partner in their project,” Paul noted. He explained that the employees of Hilltop Lumber work as a team to provide 100 percent customer satisfaction by providing superior design, product knowledge, on-time delivery and service after the sale. “At Hilltop Lumber, our goal is to provide quality products with excellent service at a fair price,” he added. “We accomplish this by providing friendly, dependable and prompt service to all customers all of the time.”

In 2005 Hilltop Lumber tripled the size of its Alexandria location, making it the largest home improvement showroom in the lakes area. According to Brian Klimek, general manager, the expansion added about 40,000 square feet of display area, office space and warehouse area to the Hilltop Lumber building. The whole building including each office is designed to be a display of different doors, species of wood and styles of interior millwork and cabinets. Hilltop Lumber is a Do It Best affiliate and sells hardware, paint, tools, plumbing supplies and almost any other product needed for a new house or remodeling project.

 

Hilltop Lumber’s “Idea House”

Hilltop Lumber’s Alexandria store also has the largest display of Marvin Windows and Doors in outstate Minnesota. Marvin Windows and Doors and products from other manufacturers are displayed in a house-like setting. The Hilltop Lumber “Idea House” is a series of rooms built using products the company sells. It’s a hands on experience were customers see home improvement product installed like Marvin Windows, CertainTeed siding and roofing, Bayer Built woodwork and many others.

Hilltop Lumber also has a design team that can help customers with everything from project design and layout, to choosing paint colors, flooring and cabinet styles. Other services include complete drafting and estimating services, on-site consulting and assistance in choosing reputable contractors.

In 2014 Hilltop Lumber opened its newest location in Ottertail, Minnesota.
